Basecamp life Base camp is quite comfortable. We have a large dining tent for the team, toilette tents and a shower tent. There is electricity during the evenings (220 volt). You will have your own sleeping tent at basecamp (or a tent to share with another member if you wish). We will also give you a thick foam sleeping mattress for your base camp accommodations. At base camp we eat a combination of mostly western and Chinese dishes. Our cooks, who we have worked with for years, do a great job making sure we always have plenty to eat so we stay strong and healthy. Please bring two day’s worth of freeze-dried meals for up on the mountain. We will supply a good assortment of mountain food and many drinks, but they are not freeze-dried. The freeze-dried food you bring is to supplement what we have and you can definitely bring more if you like. The local Kirghiz and Tashik people often hang around basecamp, either while grazing their sheep, bartering their wares, asking if they can carry loads up the mountain, or just observing the oddities of foreign climbers. Throughout the years we have developed very good relationships with the local people. They have assisted us, and taken us into their homes. It is important to respect their culture and to remember that we are guests here; our base camp sits on their grazing lands.
